LSIS Mentor Support Grants

Composite Report: Mentor Support Projects were undertaken by eight different SWitch member organisations and addressed a variety of aspects of mentoring in a range of contexts, engaging over 800 practitioners from across the SWitch constituencies (Work Based Learning, HE, FE, Adult & Community Learning, specialist colleges). A range of information, approaches and materials have been developed which would be of interest and value across the national CETT network - and beyond.

Reaches the Mentors that other Training Cannot Reach:
Initial teacher training (FE): On-Line mentor Training
An action research project by Robert Lawy and Kate Hellman.

The aim of the research has been to devise an on-line mentoring programme that is accessible and available as an on-line training programme for new and existing mentors in ITT (FE). The research has been devised with a strong action orientation with the intention of achieving a consensus model of mentoring practice that addresses the many and varied expectations of the role as well as the diversity of individual needs and circumstances of both mentors and trainees. This was achieved through an iterative process whereby the programme has been modified in response to the formal and informal discussions with users of the programmes.
