LSIS launches innovative Skills for Life Core Curriculum (28 April 09)

The Learning & Skills Improvement Service (LSIS) has launched a new adult core curriculum for trainer and teachers in adult learning throughout the UK. The new and improved curriculum represents a significant step by LSIS to enhance the quality of teaching and learning and to increase success rates by incorporating Skills for Life into all teaching areas.

Ofsted Report on the Initial Training of Further Education Teachers (Feb 09)

This report presents an overview of the 2004–2008 inspection cycle of initial teacher training for further education, including national awarding body qualifications. Taking the 2003 survey "The initial training of further education teachers" as a starting point, the report sets out the changes and developments over the four-year cycle of inspection, including the recent major structural reforms which were significantly influenced by inspection findings. The report evaluates the extent to which providers visited in 2007/08 have modified their programmes and evaluated their provision so
that trainees are equipped with the skills and competencies needed for high-quality teaching.

Ofsted Report on the Impact of Train to Gain on Skills in Employment (Nov 08)

This survey report evaluates the impact of provision funded by Train to Gain on the skills and qualifications held by adult employees in England. Programmes funded by Train to Gain are available for adults who do not hold level 2 qualifications or who have literacy or numeracy skills needs. This survey assessed the extent to which skills were improved, the quality of provision funded by Train to Gain, and the leadership and management of that provision.

Regional Learning & Skills Workers' Report of a Pilot Network Meeting in the South West (March 09)

The SWitch Centre for Excellence in Teacher Training (CETT) held a Regional Learning & Skills Workers Meeting in March of this year. The report which was produced as a result of this meeting, and endorsed by the Learning & Skills Improvement Service (LSIS), throws some helpful light to find a way through the maze of current structures of improvement support for providers.
